Student Safari - iPod Touch in the Classroom (Pt. 2)

Posted Posted by Debi Stangeland in

As you have read, we added the iPod Touch to our daily activities in the classroom last fall.  What started out as a fun experiment has turned into quite an integral part of our daily activities.   You can see how we started utilizing it HERE.

The next step in our use of the iPod has been to find out what is happening in the news each day.  Via Safari, each kid has to visit Scholastic News and find out the day's headline, then write it in their journal.  (For my Jr. Kindergartener a picture of the headline is required.)

While the kids are pretty young to understand everything we read about in the news, they are still learning quite a bit.  Just this week they learned the difference between "jeans" and "genes."

Obviously older kids will be able to read full news stories and discuss them in detail, but even younger students can learn and discover with this useful website.

How do you use the iPod in your classroom?
