Five Minute Friday: Afraid

5 min Friday

GO

The day was that kind of spring day where the sun is hot but the wind still blows.  Any sort of exertion means you’ll get sweaty, but if you stop you’ll get cold.  And here I was walking down the road with a blister growing exponentially with each step.  I had a long way to go and I was afraid I wouldn’t make it.

I’d already walked some ancient roads, trails and even on top of a wall, so the walking wasn’t the bad part.  It was the blasted shoe I was wearing.

So cool in the shop window.

So not cool on my foot.

My fear of not making it eclipsed my fear of doing what I was about to do.  So I stuck out my thumb.  What would my mom say?  If my dad knew, he’d kill me.  How bad can it be?  If I don’t like who stops I’ll just say no thanks and/or RUN!

The huge van that came around the corner slowed to a stop.  I jumped in.

C’mon, how dangerous could the mobile librarian be?

Phew!!! Inside, I was screaming, “Do NOT get in that van!!!”. I hope the blister wasn’t too bad and that you found a great book to read:)

Hitchhiking in a foreign country just seems a tad bit safer than over here in North America. I watch Amazing Race—they’re actually helpful! Ha ha!

I also think shoe stores need an area in-store with all sorts of terrain & condition: hills, mud, sand, water, cold, etc so that a shopper can give the shoe a proper test.

Nicely done! This post was fun. Nicely written– you certainly had me alongside you on your uncomfy walk… at least until you stuck out your thumb ;)

    • Thanks Sabrina! You know you’ve always wanted to hitchhike. Ok, maybe not. I agree with the shoe store idea. REI has a spot like this kind of, but we could use more testing space for sure. Have a great weekend!

I was ABOUT to be horrified!! You got me. I even had to read it twice to realize you meant what we call in this region the “book mobile”. Then I had to concede, that while I might not trust all drivers of the mobile, you are probably less likely to be in danger. lol Good one

  6. Oh my WORD!!! Visions were forming in my head….what would happen??? You crack me up! YAY for mobile libraries!!! THIS is why I love coming to your place on the web. Smiles at 10 PM after two LOOOONG days. You are a treasure!
