Give Yourself Permission: An Introduction
- Consent; authorization.
Some of its synonyms are
Giving permission requires not only action, but also a shift in perspective. For all intents and purposes when I give permission, I have to give up control.
Yes. Trust me, I have tried over four decades to give permission and retain control. I speak from experience. It doesn’t work so well.
However, another one of permission‘s synonyms is EMPOWERMENT. Now that’s a word I can get behind. When I give permission for something, when I give up control, I become empowered.
This is positive. A woman who is empowered is a benefit to her family, her community and herself.
Take a look at the Proverbs 31 woman. She’s no shrinking violet. She’s empowered.
- Her actions bring good to her husband.
- She provides for her family.
- She makes wise business decisions. Ones that make a profit.
- She is prepared.
- She is a woman of accomplishment.
She didn’t just turn out this way. She put effort into her life. She began by giving herself permission.
The goal is empowerment. The road to reaching that goal is called permission. This year I invite you to walk down this road with me.
During 2013 I will be talking a lot about giving yourself permission. As women we often forget about ourselves. We are so busy serving and providing for others that we forget how to nurture ourselves and maintain our own health and stability. Often this is because we do not give ourselves permission to do and not do things.
2013 is the year to change this. By giving ourselves permission as individuals, together we will grow and mature as women of faith and family.
Please join me. Give yourself permission to be the very best you can be this year. Hop on the bus and come along as we take a trip down a road called permission. I look forward to this journey with you because I, for one, have a lot to learn and a long way to go. But traveling with you will make the work so much more fun.
