Five Minute Friday: REST
2 steps. Rest.
5 steps. Rest.
Only 100 yards to go.
A few more steps.
A few more rests.
My head is spinning.
My stomach is forming a revolution.
My senses are swaying to an unheard waltz.
Just get to that rock. Then you can rest.
Now get to THAT rock.
Don’t worry about who’s passing you.
The tree line is so far below. Up here, where the air is so very thin, there is nothing. No life.
Why am I doing this?
I breath a song to keep my feet moving upward. Always upward.
How many switchbacks?
I just want to reach the top. I’ve been climbing for 7 hours. The turning back point happened long, long ago.
I can almost touch the clouds.
6 more steps.
For a long, long time.
Pike’s Peak is one of Colorado’s 54 “fourteeners”, mountains that rise more than 14,000 feet (4,300 m) above mean sea level.
The peak is 14,115 feet (4,302 m) and rises 8,400 feet (2,600 m) above the city of Colorado Springs.
Oh, and did I mention – it’s a BEAST to climb. (**TMI ALERT) I hurl every time.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here
and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
Oh and Ahem, if you would take pity and turn off comment verification,
it would make leaving some love on your post that much easier for folks!
